In this class we will talk about the most relevant characteristics of the Jive and its origins.
The Jive is originated in the United States by African Americans. It is influenced by other styles of music and dance such as “East Coast Swing”, “Boogie-Woogie”, “Lindy Hop” or “Rock and Roll” among others. All these influences make the Jive a dance with many characteristics at the same time.
It is a fast and compact dance according to its rhythm but at the same time with a heavy, vague air and connected to the ground, which reminds us more of the “Swing” and the Afro culture, represented in the Jive by the lateral movement of the hips when dancing . In contrast, the Jive is also characterized by a fast movement of the feet and knees with “hops”, “flicks” and “kicks” that give the dance a cabaret touch, more exaggerated and active, which perhaps reminds us of “Rock and Roll ”.
It is a happy, active, fast and exaggerated dance. With a Hollywood spirit he exudes spectacle, stage show, fun at all times and a mischievous touch that characterizes him.
