SAMBA
This is an introductory class to Samba. We will explain its main characteristics and its origins.
Samba is a musical genre with African roots that emerged in Brazil. Today it is a symbol of national identity of Brazilian popular culture.
During its history, Samba has many musical and social influences that lead it to multiple different styles such as Brazilian Samba, Samba Reggae or Bossa-Nova, among others.
Samba is included in ballroom dances, obtaining a great influence from them, acquiring a more elegant and social party tone. It exudes celebration, social union, joy and merriment.
The most characteristic parts of the body are the hips, breasts and the constant and relaxed flexion and extension of the knees, which transmits heaviness, triviality and pregnancy.
It is a dance that contains figures of progression on the floor with the aim of surrounding it from the outside.
CHACHACHÁ
The cha-cha was born in Cuba in the old music and dance clubs. The name Chachachá is an onomatopoeia that refers to the noise that the feet make when dancing this musical genre. Also referring to the güiro because he seems to be saying: cha-cha-chá.
Thus, it began to have fame and relevance for being an irresistible rhythm until it became part of the ballroom dancing, acquiring a more elegant and distinguished tone.
It has a sensual and happy air, like all the dances from its area, and its main characteristic is the movement of the hips and the speed of flexion and extension at the knees.
JIVE
In this class we will talk about the most relevant characteristics of the Jive and its origins.
The Jive is originated in the United States by African Americans. It is influenced by other styles of music and dance such as “East Coast Swing”, “Boogie-Woogie”, “Lindy Hop” or “Rock and Roll” among others. All these influences make the Jive a dance with many characteristics at the same time.
It is a fast and compact dance according to its rhythm but at the same time with a heavy, vague air and connected to the ground, which reminds us more of the “Swing” and the Afro culture, represented in the Jive by the lateral movement of the hips when dancing . In contrast, the Jive is also characterized by a fast movement of the feet and knees with “hops”, “flicks” and “kicks” that give the dance a cabaret touch, more exaggerated and active, which perhaps reminds us of “Rock and Roll ”.
It is a happy, active, fast and exaggerated dance. With a Hollywood spirit he exudes spectacle, stage show, fun at all times and a mischievous touch that characterizes him.
